Information
We had the privilege of joining a VIP Riding Luxor 3-hour Habu Temple Private Ride. The guide and owner “Karim” was able to accommodate all of our wishes.
Guests could only pay for the ride in cash — in Euros, USD, or Egyptian pounds.
A transfer picked up guests from their hotel.
If desired, guests can borrow a riding helmet free of charge. Helmets are not mandatory.
The stable is run by Karim (Egyptian), who puts the wellbeing of the horses and customer care above everything else.
Stable
The stable is located at the edge of a suburb in Luxor. Right next to the stable, a hotel for guests is currently being built. Karim only keeps stallions. They spend the nights in stalls and the days outside. After every ride, the horses are given double rations of feed. All horses are well-nourished and have been with Karim for many years, as he always reinvests the income into feed for leaner times.
Arrival
Upon arrival, Karim showed us the stable and the horses. His staff prepared the horses for the ride. In front of the stable, a bench served as a mounting block. While we mounted, the staff member held the horses and adjusted the stirrups. Once Karim was in the saddle, the ride began.
My Trail Ride Diary
Your personal companion for your ride trips– with plenty of space for photos and notes!
Trail Ride
The ride began at the stable intersection, where we turned left. At the next corner, we turned left again and passed the “Luxor Pottery School.” Shortly after, we reached another intersection, turned right, and crossed the main road. We followed the road to the left until reaching the first roundabout and rode through it. At the next opportunity, we turned left and wound our way through the village until we finally arrived in front of the imposing “Mortuary Temple of Seti I.”
From there, the path led us to the right for a short trot stretch, which we enjoyed with great pleasure. At the end of this section, we turned left before turning right onto a field path.
We walked leisurely past lush green meadows and endless sugarcane fields. Eventually, we reached a junction where we turned right, then shortly after, took the second opportunity to turn left. Here we could trot again and enjoy the ground beneath our horses’ hooves. After a right turn and another left bend, we rode relaxed along the field paths until a perfect gallop stretch opened up in front of us. We let the horses loose and galloped joyfully across the open landscape.
After a while, we slowed back to a walk and approached a busy road. Carefully, we turned right and finally reached the parking lot in front of the enormous Statue of Memnon. Shortly after, we rode along the road past the Temple of Amenophis III and entered the endless expanse of the desert. Here we had another opportunity to gallop — an incomparable feeling of freedom and adventure!
Our path eventually led us to the Temple of Habu, where we turned left and took a well-deserved break at the Café & Restaurant Maratonga. While we refreshed ourselves, the horses were provided with water.
The return journey remained at a calm walk. Passing the Temple of Habu, we continued straight along a busy road. We briefly left the road and crossed the desert landscape for a moment — a magical sight at night. Finally, we returned to the road, passed a roundabout, and shortly after turned right. A left curve and two consecutive right curves brought us safely back to the stable, where our unforgettable ride ended.

While riding, I wore the Royal Horsemen riding leggings – they were extremely comfortable and pleasant to wear.

After the ride
Back at the stable, the staff member came to meet us, held the horse so I could dismount, and immediately brought the horses into their stalls. Saddles and bridles were removed, and the horses were cared for.
The transfer then brought us back to our hotel.
Photos
Karim, the owner, took many photos and videos during the entire ride.
Make sure you have enough storage space!
My Review
I really enjoyed the ride. Experiencing the varied nature, statues, and temples from horseback is a truly special experience.
