Information
We had the privilege of joining a VIP Riding Luxor 210-minute Nile and Island Private Ride. The guide and owner “Karim” was able to accommodate all of our wishes.
Guests could only pay for the ride in cash — in Euros, USD, or Egyptian pounds.
A transfer picked up guests from their hotel.
If desired, guests can borrow a riding helmet free of charge. Helmets are not mandatory.
The stable is run by Karim (Egyptian), who puts the wellbeing of the horses and customer care above everything else.
Stable
The stable is located at the edge of a suburb in Luxor. Right next to the stable, a hotel for guests is currently being built. Karim only keeps stallions. They spend the nights in stalls and the days outside. After every ride, the horses are given double rations of feed. All horses are well-nourished and have been with Karim for many years, as he always reinvests the income into feed for leaner times.
Arrival
Upon arrival, Karim showed us the stable and the horses. His staff prepared the horses for the ride. In front of the stable, a bench served as a mounting block. While we mounted, the staff member held the horses and adjusted the stirrups. Once Karim was in the saddle, the ride began.
My Trail Ride Diary
Your personal companion for your ride trips– with plenty of space for photos and notes!
Trail Ride
The ride started directly at the stable. With one left and two right turns, we rode through the village until we crossed a small stream. Then we turned left and reached the wide field paths.
At the first intersection, we guided our horses to the right and rode at a relaxed walk for a while. Soon we reached a short gallop track located just past another intersection — an invitation we couldn’t refuse. At a relaxed pace, we galloped, enjoying the wind on our faces, then turned around at the end to gallop back the same way. Back at the intersection, we turned right this time.
The path led us past lush green meadows and endless sugarcane fields. Here we continued to gallop until the path curved gently to the left. This brought us directly to an Egyptian farming family who welcomed us warmly. The family had cows and, among other animals, a beautiful mare which they made available to me.
With a small boat, we crossed the Nile to a private island belonging to the family. There, my riding horse was brought to me — and I got the rare opportunity to swim with it in the Nile. At the other end of the island, there was a deeper area in the water, but for a proper swim, I would have needed swimwear. So I stayed in the shallow areas. In addition to swimming, I could also ride across the island. With the mare, I “danced” for the first time — a beautiful, typical movement for Egyptian horses.
Eventually, it was time to say goodbye. I crossed the Nile back to the mainland with my riding horse, where we once again had solid ground under our hooves. I said farewell to the mare, mounted my original horse, and continued our ride.
In all three gaits, we rode along the wide field paths until we reached an intersection. There we went straight and made a short stop for a fresh sugarcane snack. Then we continued at walk and trot until we reached a main road. We followed it for a while at a walk before turning right again.
At the stream, the path led us left, and we rode through the village once more before finally returning to the stable.

While riding, I wore the Royal Horsemen riding leggings – they were extremely comfortable and pleasant to wear.

After the ride
Back at the stable, the staff member came to meet us, held the horse so I could dismount, and immediately brought the horses into their stalls. Saddles and bridles were removed, and the horses were cared for.
The transfer then brought us back to our hotel.
Photos
Karim, the owner, took many photos and videos during the entire ride.
Die Familie hatte viele Ideen für Fotos und machten daraus ein Shooting.
Make sure you have enough storage space!
My Review
I really enjoyed the ride. Swimming in the Nile was a special experience. The island is a beautiful, always-green place.
