Information
By Viator* or GetYourGuide* I could book and pay the Sólhestar ride. At the stable, riders could borrow an overall against cold, rain, or snow.
Stable
The horses were already saddled and bridled, tied up outside and ready for the ride. The other horses stood in paddocks. There were also covered stalls where the horses stayed overnight, and they were regularly moved to another farm to ensure they had enough free time.
Arrival
The staff asked about each rider’s experience and assigned the horses accordingly. und Riders mounted without a mounting block. The staff adjusted the stirrups, and once everyone was on their horses, the ride began.
Trail Ride
The ride started directly at the stable. We began at a walk to warm up. Our route led past the stables and the “Mega Zipline.” Shortly after, we crossed a crystal-clear river for the first time. We then rode for a while along the left side of the river until we reached the first tölt track. If not all riders wanted to try the special gait, the guides split up so that some could enjoy the tölt while others stayed in walk. I had several chances to experience the tölt on the black volcanic sand trails. Twice we crossed a lightly trafficked road. Along the way, we saw the hot steam rising from the “Hot Springs.” Our trail wound its way between green meadows and small fir trees. Altogether, we had six opportunities to tölt. Galloping was not part of this ride.
After the ride
Back at the stable, a staff member took care of the horses. Riders could warm up in a lounge area and were offered complimentary tea, coffee, or hot chocolate.
Photos
There was a photo stop at a beautiful spot. There was a photo stop at a beautiful spot with a small volcano in the background. The guide dismounted and took the guest’s phone to take pictures. Each guest received their photos directly on their phone.
My Review
I really enjoyed the trail ride. The scenery was beautiful, the horses were in excellent condition, and tölting was a lot of fun. The complimentary hot drinks after the ride were also a nice touch.
