01.04.2022 & 30.04.-01.05.2022
What can I expect from a gallop weekend at Schilchernhof? Here you’ll find all the important information about the stable, the rides, photos, and my review.

Information
No longer offers guest rides, only riding lessons (as of 03/2025)
I booked and paid for the riding trip directly through “Pegasus Reiterreisen.”
Due to snowfall, the hosts split the gallop weekend. On the make-up date, I was the only rider. For this reason, this report differs from a “normal” gallop weekend.
Stable
All horses were kept in the pastures. The hosts used the stablesto prepare the horses. Mares with foals stayed in the stalls overnight.
Itinerary
First Day of the Weekend 01.04.2022:
All riders met on Friday at 12:00 at Schilchernhof. During lunch, the hosts explained how the afternoon would proceed. Each rider was asked to share their riding experience. The owner assigned the horses and indicated which horses were in which stalls at that time.
Each rider prepared their assigned horse for a first ride in the indoor arena. In the arena, the riding instructor evaluated the riders’ skills, and everyone could get used to the horses. The instructor checked the riders’ ability in all three gaits. Shortly after, we went outside to the riding track. The track was covered in snow. Because of the snow, the horses wore studs, making it too dangerous to ride, so we returned to the arena. Shortly after, we were allowed to attempt a ride in the forest.
There was little soft snow in the forest, so we could ride. We rode walk, trot, and canter. The ride lasted one hour.
The next morning, the hosts had to cancel the gallop weekend due to overnight snowfall. Riders were allowed to choose an alternative date. On that day, the hosts offered a riding lesson for an extra charge. Additionally, it was possible to stay for the weekend and take riding lessons on both days.

Second Day of the Weekend 30.04.2022:
On Saturday morning it rained. The ride took place in the afternoon with the owners. We prepared the horses for the ride. The ride started from the farm and went through forests and over meadow paths in the Allgäu region. There were beautiful views along the way. Due to a thunderstorm warning, the ride was shortened to 15 km instead of 25 km. We trotted and cantered several times. The canter stretches were long and enjoyable.
Since the ride was only 15 km, the owners allowed me to ride some laps alone on the riding track. The track was 750 meters long and ran along the edge of the forest around the horse pastures.
Third Day of the Weekend 01.05.2022:
The ride took place in the morning with the riding instructor. During the ride, we warmed up the horses until the trot section came. On the first canter stretch, the instructor instructed us to maintain a distance of four horse lengths to give each horse enough space. The canter stretches were long and continuous, and the riders rode at a normal, relaxed pace. We rode for two hours until the first break, which included drinks for humans and horses and a small snack.
After the break, we rode back to the farm. Since the horses were still warm, we could include the quickly approaching canter section.
For recovery, we rode mostly at a walk until we reached the trot or canter sections. The ride back to the farm lasted two hours, passing through forests and meadows with beautiful views. At the farm, everyone unsaddled and unbridled their horses and tidied up.
The horses that participated in the ride had the following day completely off.

Photo breaks were possible upon request.
My Review
I really enjoyed the riding trip. The area was beautiful, the purebred Arabian horses were wonderful, and there were enough walking breaks for recovery during the rides. I also liked that the host offered an alternative weekend. The horses were able to spend their free time in the pasture with their herd.
