Located just about 30 minutes from Reykjavík, the Mega Zipline in Hveragerði offers an unforgettable adventure, which can be conveniently booked via ViatorThe zipline spans a remarkable 1 kilometer and soars high above a narrow waterfall with breathtaking views. The necessary equipment, including harnesses and helmets, is provided free of charge.
Arrival
Upon arrival, all guests are shown a short instructional video. The staff then assist in putting on the harnesses. A small jeep takes the guide and four guests to the starting point – the journey is a bit bumpy, but adds to the excitement. Once there, it’s a short climb up a staircase to the platform. With two ziplines available, two guests can go at once. The guide attaches the guest to the harness and explains the procedure once again.
Experience
Once the signal is given, the ride begins! The seating position allows you to control the speed to some extent. The ride offers spectacular views of the landscape and waterfall. The 1 km distance passes in no time. At the end, the staff gives a signal to brake, ensuring that you don’t arrive too quickly. A ladder is provided to help you step off, and you then clear the area and walk down the stairs.

It’s only a short walk back to the meeting point, where you can remove and return your equipment.
Photos
Taking photos during the ride is only possible if you don't need to hold the phone in your hand – for example, with a secure mount. Alternatively, companions or staff can take pictures from either above or below, though you might have to wait a moment for other guests to reach the bottom as well.
My Review
The Mega Zipline was a one-of-a-kind experience – beautiful, thrilling, and full of adrenaline. While the price might be a bit steep, I absolutely recommend this adventure. It was definitely a highlight of my time in Iceland!
