Information
There was an online riding calander.
The owner only offered rides of at least 2 hours.
Stable
The farm is located in the middle of the Palatinate Mountains. On the last few meters to the farm, there were large pastures on both sides where the horses spent the summer. During the winter, the horses stayed on a large paddock and were brought into individual stalls in the evening. Hay was available 24/7 on the paddock and in the stalls. Additionally, the horses received concentrated feed in the stalls.
Arrival
Everything ran very smoothly. The owner spoke extensively with the group and assigned the horses. Guests could request a preferred horse. Only after this conversation did the riders bring the horses for the ride, if they were not already in the stalls.
Riders prepared the horses in the stalls. Before mounting, they walked a few steps beside the horse to a rock or tree stump. Then the girth was checked again, and they mounted using the mounting aid.
My Trail Ride Diary
Your personal companion for your ride trips– with plenty of space for photos and notes!
Trail Ride
The trail led us through the Palatinate forested mountains. There were no specially designated bridle paths; riders were allowed to use all the trails, and there was much to explore. At the start, we warmed up the horses for half an hour at a walk. On uphill stretches and on flat paths, we trotted and cantered, which was possible several times. If horse and rider worked well together, the ride even went cross-country through the forest.
On this ride, we took regular breaks. During these breaks, the horses were allowed to graze with just their halters on. The bridles were removed during this time. Riders had the chance to drink something. These were short breaks of up to 15 minutes. At midday, we took a long break. The horses were tied up, and we had time to eat. We ordered pizza and had a picnic. After the meal, we fetched the horses and went to a water source. Once both horses and riders were refreshed, the ride continued.
On the final stretch back to the stable, guests dismounted, loosened the girth, and led the horses in.
After the ride
Back at the stable, riders unbridled and unsaddled the horses. They groomed and, if needed, bathed the horses. Depending on the time of day and year, the horses were returned to the pasture, paddock, or left in the stall.
Photos
There was one scheduled photo break. Additional photo breaks were possible upon request.
My Review
I really enjoyed the full-day trail ride. The Palatinate mountains are a beautiful area for riding, with plenty to see. We took regular breaks so the horses could graze, which I appreciated. The picnic was also very nice. The horses are well cared for. I also appreciated being able to prepare my own horse.
