Information

Guests could book their ride via phone call or WhatsApp. The owner always asked about previous riding experience. Long pants and sturdy shoes were required. Helmets were available to borrow free of charge on-site. Payment for the Rancho Bonanza 5 Stunden Ausritt im Schritt Trab und Galopp in cash.

Stable

Almost all riding horses lived together on a paddock field with 24/7 access to food. The horses stayed in a herd. Some horses were kept in paddock boxes near the stable, also with 24/7 food available. The owner made sure the horses’ workload was evenly distributed.

Arrival

Upon arrival, the owner assigned each rider their horse. Riders then prepared their horses for the trail ride. In the center of the yard was a covered feeding area, where horses coming from the paddock were tied and allowed to enjoy a “second breakfast” while the riders tacked them up.

Before the ride started, riders led their horses to the water trough. Only when the horses were ready were they bridled. Staff checked saddles and tightened girths. Riders mounted from a mounting block while the team held the horses steady. They also adjusted stirrups and double-checked girths. Finally, the guide assigned the riding order.

Trail Ride

At the start, we crossed a busy road. A staff member, wearing a safety vest and carrying a stop sign, stepped into the road to halt traffic. This allowed all riders to cross safely and reach the forest. Once inside, there was a short stop where the trail guide introduced herself and gave information about the ride. The first trot took place in the forest. On the way to the nature reserve, we crossed two more quiet roads.

Heading towards the parking lot, we had the first short canter. After crossing the parking area, we entered the nature reserve. The ride passed the bay of Cala Agulla with a sea view from horseback. Directly on the beach, riding was not allowed between April and October due to the crowds. For a while, we continued at a walk along rocky paths inside the reserve until we reached sandy forest tracks, where we were able to canter. The trail led along the dunes. From there, riders could see the sea and the bay of Cala Mesquida. Eventually, we reached Cala Torta.

The horses were tied up in the shade, while the riders enjoyed a one-hour break with the option to swim in the sea and have a picnic. Afterwards, we mounted again and returned over the mountain, through the forest, and back onto the rocky trail leading towards Cala Agulla. A sandy stretch offered us one last canter in the reserve. After the final gallop, we mainly walked back across the parking lot and through the forest to the stable.

After the ride

Back at the stable, the guests untacked and unbridled their horses. They then walked them onto the riding arena, where the horses could roll. One by one, the staff gave the horses a refreshing shower. Finally, the guests led them back to the paddock.

A photo break was possible upon request.

My Review

I really enjoyed this trail ride. The area was beautiful, and the swimming break was a lovely highlight. The horses were in great condition, and the owner and her team took excellent care of their well-being.
