Information

Guests could book their ride via phone call or WhatsApp. The owner always asked about previous riding experience. Long pants and sturdy shoes were required. Helmets were available to borrow free of charge on-site. Payment for the Rancho Bonanza 1-hour walk, trot, and canter ride was made in cash.

Stable

Almost all riding horses lived together on a paddock field with 24/7 access to food. The horses stayed in a herd. Some horses were kept in paddock boxes near the stable, also with 24/7 food available. The owner made sure the horses’ workload was evenly distributed.

Arrival

Upon arrival, the owner assigned each rider their horse. Riders then prepared their horses for the trail ride. In the center of the yard was a covered feeding area, where horses coming from the paddock were tied and allowed to enjoy a “second breakfast” while the riders tacked them up.

Before the ride started, riders led their horses to the water trough. Only when the horses were ready were they bridled. Staff checked saddles and tightened girths. Riders mounted from a mounting block while the team held the horses steady. They also adjusted stirrups and double-checked girths. Finally, the guide assigned the riding order.

Trail Ride

The ride started by crossing a busy road. A staff member wearing a reflective vest and holding a stop sign stepped onto the road to stop traffic so all riders could cross safely into the forest. Once in the forest, we trotted for the first time. On the way to the nature reserve, we crossed two more quiet roads.

The first short canter was on the way toward the parking lot. After passing the parking area, we entered the nature reserve. The trail went past the bay of Cala Agulla, where riders could enjoy beautiful sea views from horseback. Riding directly on the beach was not permitted between April and October. On sandy, straight sections, we trotted or cantered. Through rocky terrain in the reserve, we continued at a walk until we reached a triangular-shaped trail. We trotted and cantered two sides of the triangle, and walked the third side back to the starting point. Riders then did a second round with trot and canter before heading back.

The return followed the same route past Cala Agulla, across the parking lot, through the forest, and back to the stables. On the way back, we had additional opportunities for canter stretches in the woods.

After the ride

Back at the stable, the guests untacked and unbridled their horses. They then walked them onto the riding arena, where the horses could roll. One by one, the staff gave the horses a refreshing shower. Finally, the guests led them back to the paddock.

A photo break was possible upon request.

My Review

I really enjoyed the ride. The area was beautiful for horseback riding, with great sandy trails perfect for canters. It was a lot of fun, and the landscape offered plenty of variety. The horses were well cared for, and the team paid close attention to every detail.
