Information
We had the privilege of joining a VIP Riding Luxor 5-hour Private Ride. The guide and owner “Karim” was able to accommodate all of our wishes.
Guests could only pay for the ride in cash — in Euros, USD, or Egyptian pounds.
A transfer picked up guests from their hotel.
If desired, guests can borrow a riding helmet free of charge. Helmets are not mandatory.
The stable is run by Karim (Egyptian), who puts the wellbeing of the horses and customer care above everything else.
Stable
The stable is located at the edge of a suburb in Luxor. Right next to the stable, a hotel for guests is currently being built. Karim only keeps stallions. They spend the nights in stalls and the days outside. After every ride, the horses are given double rations of feed. All horses are well-nourished and have been with Karim for many years, as he always reinvests the income into feed for leaner times.
Arrival
Upon arrival, Karim showed us the stable and the horses. His staff prepared the horses for the ride. In front of the stable, a bench served as a mounting block. While we mounted, the staff member held the horses and adjusted the stirrups. Once Karim was in the saddle, the ride began.

While riding, I wore the Royal Horsemen riding leggings – they were extremely comfortable and pleasant to wear.

Trail Ride
The ride started at the stable intersection, where we turned left. At the next corner, we turned left again and rode past the “Luxor Pottery School.” Soon after, we reached another intersection, turned right, and crossed the main road. We followed the road to the left, rode through the first roundabout, and at the next one turned left. The path led us to wide green fields, where we enjoyed our first trot.
Turning right, we continued toward the hot air balloons. Riding in all three gaits across the fields, we watched the majestic balloons ascend into the sky. Our horses remained completely relaxed — a fascinating spectacle they were well accustomed to. We returned along the same field path until we reached a busy road. There we turned left and shortly after right onto a hill, where a breathtaking sunrise awaited us.
From there, we continued at a walk over the hill to the main road, followed it for a short stretch, then turned left into the rocky desert landscape. The barren expanse of the desert accompanied us until we met another road, which we followed for a while before turning left to admire the impressive “Temple of Ramses” from a distance. At the “Ramesseum Rest House,” we took a short drinking break.
We continued past the “Temple of Ramses” and turned left again. The path wound along a small village and led to the “Temple of Khonsuirdis.” Then we rode on to the next statue, where the horses had a well-deserved drink.
Finally, we followed a road straight ahead, then turned right, continuing along a long dusty path past the “Malkata Palace of Amenhotep III.” We then turned left and reached the sandy desert.
Upon arrival, we used the soft sand for a short gallop before turning right. After a walk stretch, a beautiful gallop track lay ahead, which we enjoyed to the fullest. At the end, we made a 180-degree turn and galloped back the same way, gradually slowing to a walk.
On the familiar path, we continued until we reached the “Temple of Habu.” There, we turned right and followed the path to the next left turn, leading directly to a well-deserved break at the “Café & Restaurant Maratonga.” While enjoying a hearty breakfast, the horses were provided with fresh water.
Refreshed, we continued our return. A short road led us to a turn where we went left, then followed the main road to the right, past the impressive “Temple of Amenophis III.” At the next opportunity, we returned to the field paths and let the horses gallop again.
This section was ridden in all three gaits until we turned right, then immediately left to reach a busy road. This led us through a roundabout, further straight, and finally to a last right turn. A left curve and two following right turns brought us safely back to the stable, where our adventurous ride ended.

After the ride
Back at the stable, the staff member came to meet us, held the horse so I could dismount, and immediately brought the horses into their stalls. Saddles and bridles were removed, and the horses were cared for.
The transfer then brought us back to our hotel.
Photos
Karim, the owner, took many photos and videos during the entire ride.
Make sure you have enough storage space!
My Review
I really enjoyed this ride. Being there for the hot air balloon launch was special. The gallops were stunningly relaxed. The sunrise was beautiful. It was impressive to see the temples from the outside.
