Information
Guests could pay for the 1.5-hour Düsternbrook ride in cash or by card. For an additional fee, a transfer from Windhoek to the farm and back could be arranged.
Helmets were available free of charge on-site.
I had a private ride with the staff and interns. In total, we were a group of four.
Stable
The riding horses were kept in cool stalls, waiting to be saddled and bridled. In their free time, the horses were allowed to roam the large fields.
Arrival
For registration, I went to the reception, where I paid for the ride and the transfer. Next, I had to sign a consent form.
A staff member then sent me down to the stables. Upon arrival, the staff prepared the horses for the ride. One of them accompanied me to the tack room so I could choose a helmet and leave my bag.
Back at the horses, I was assigned my horse, which I could lead directly out of the stall.
A staff member positioned my horse at a small wall serving as a mounting aid, held the horse, and adjusted the stirrups. Once all staff and interns were mounted, the ride started directly from the farm.

While riding, I wore the Royal Horsemen riding leggings – they were extremely comfortable and pleasant to wear.

Trail Ride
To warm up, we rode at a relaxed walk past the guest houses and through a dry, rocky riverbed. The trail then led us along sandy paths through a forest of camel thorn trees. On this stretch, we added a trot and were suddenly treated to the sight of a distant herd of giraffes, past which we rode carefully.
Leaving the forest at a walk, we turned left and followed a sandy path, where we could enjoy a beautiful, extended gallop. Afterwards, we rode at a long walking pace over rocky hills with breathtaking views of the wide valley. The trail formed a loop until we returned to sandy paths, where we could spot impala antelopes in the distance before galloping again.
We continued through the camel thorn forest, where we had the rare opportunity to get very close to a giraffe. Once the path allowed, we had one final gallop before returning to the farm and stables at a relaxed walk.
My Trail Ride Diary
Your personal companion for your ride trips– with plenty of space for photos and notes!
After the ride
Back at the stable, we all dismounted. I could cuddle with the Arabian horse for a moment before returning him to the stall and unbridling him. The volunteers unsaddled my horse. We shared the photos via AirDrop before I had to leave, while the volunteers bathed the horses.
Photos
We took photos with a giraffe, the impala antelope herd, and on a hill with a view of the wide valley.
My Review
I really enjoyed the ride. I fulfilled my dream of experiencing a riding safari on a purebred Arabian. We were able to see giraffes up close and also impala antelopes, which I found very beautiful.
