Information
Group size varied between one to four guests plus one guide.
On my Santorini Lover Horse Rider trail ride, I was the only rider.
Payment was made after the ride, either in cash or by card.
Riding helmets and chaps could be borrowed on-site free of charge.
For the ride, I recommend bringing old riding gloves, since the bridles only had fully braided leather reins.
Stable
The facility had covered stalls, which at that time were empty, since the horses were tied on long ropes in the paddock where they could eat.
Arrival
Upon arrival, I was greeted by the guide/stable owner, who, due to his age, still rides according to the old riding school. The horses were already saddled and bridled, waiting at the hitching post. After the welcome, I put on my equipment and mounted from the right side using a mounting block. The guide untied both horses, mounted himself, and we began with a warm-up round on the makeshift riding arena before starting the trail ride.
My Trail Ride Diary
Your personal companion for your ride trips– with plenty of space for photos and notes!
Trail Ride
The ride started directly at the stable. We rode through the gate and immediately turned left onto the lava sand path. When we reached the “Sea and Sand Villas Santorini” hotel, we turned right and galloped along the path until we came to a steep curve, which we took at a walk. The path then led us past a wellness spa before reaching the lava rock beach.
First, we turned right and rode in all three gaits—walk, trot, and canter—until we reached a pier. There, we made a 180-degree turn and rode back, again using all gaits, continuing along the beach past the “Drunkfish” restaurant. Whenever possible, we picked up the trot or canter.
The trail continued along an impressive cliff, right on the sand by the sea, until we reached another pier and turned around again. On the way back, we took a right turn and rode in all gaits until we stopped in front of a white church. Once more, we turned around and rode the same way back to the beach.
Back by the sea, we continued to the right along the beach until we passed the restaurant again. Right after that, we turned off and alternated between trot and canter until finally returning to the stable.
After the ride
Back at the stable, we rode to the hitching area. First, the guide dismounted, tied his horse, and then tied the guest’s horse. He helped me dismount, since one foot was supposed to remain in the stirrup. Once I was down, the owner showed me where the toilet was. Finally, I paid for my ride.
Photos
There were two photo breaks.
The first was in front of a white church, and the second directly at the black beach. The guide took the pictures with the guest’s phone. For the photos, he tied up his horse and dismounted.
Additionally, the guide filmed a short riding video at the beach, also with the guest’s phone.
My Review
I enjoyed the ride. Beautiful trail along the black beach and great canters. I also liked the small group size and that we were given a complimentary 0.5 l water bottle for refreshment.

While riding, I wore the Royal Horsemen riding leggings – they were extremely comfortable and pleasant to wear.
