Information
I booked and paid for the Islandshestar Volcano Tour 1.5 h trail ride directly on the Islandshestar website.
For this ride, I was the only guest. Since the guide already knew me, we headed straight out without an introduction.
Stable
The Icelandic horses lived in large herds on several very spacious pastures. They stayed outdoors in all weather without any shelter.
In front of the pasture there was a tack room with all saddles, bridles, riding helmets, and rain overalls.
Arrival
When I arrived, the horses were still out on the pastures. The owners brought in the riding horses with the bridle, so that the guest could greet the horse and start grooming. Each rider was expected to saddle the horse themselves (after receiving instructions).
The guide checked if everything was correct, held the horse while mounting, and then mounted her own horse. Off we went.

Trail Ride
The ride started directly from the farm. We followed a lava sand road until the first crossroads, where we turned right. At a relaxed walk, we continued to an open gate and passed through. Immediately afterwards came the first long tölt stretch. We reached the first streams of the river Björhlaub and took a walking break to relax before tackling the next extended tölt section along the streams. At a closed gate, the guide dismounted, opened it, let me pass, closed it again, and mounted up. We continued at a walk alongside the wide river until we reached a second gate. After passing through, we rode a bit further at a walk before turning left and entering the next long tölt stretch, which we fully enjoyed. At the end of this section, we relaxed again at a walk and passed through the farm of some relatives. On the way back to the home farm, we alternated between walk and tölt on sandy lava roads. At a crossroads, we turned left once more, then shortly after right, returning to our starting point.
After the ride
Back at the farm, everyone dismounted. We unsaddled the horses, placed the saddles on the ground, and together with the guide I brought my horse back to the pasture. Meanwhile, another staff member tidied up the saddles and bridles. It was time to say goodbye.
Photos
There was a photo stop at a beautiful spot by the river "Björhlaub". The guide dismounted and took the guest’s phone to take pictures. Everyone had their photos directly on their phone.
My Review
I really enjoyed this ride – it was an unforgettable experience. The landscape was stunning, the horses were well taken care of, and tölting was a lot of fun.
