Information
At Okakambe Horse Stables all rides were conducted individually. There were no mixed groups with strangers. The guide could accommodate the wishes of each rider. My tip for booking: make a personal call to communicate any special requests. In Swakopmund, a transfer picked up the rider free of charge.
Stable
The stable was located in the rocky desert. The horses were kept in various group sizes on sandy pastures. Hay was available on the pastures. Directly at the stable, there were large paddock boxes for each horse.
The horses only needed to work every other day. After three weeks, they were moved to another farm for a three-week break. The horses had plenty of free time.
The rider paid in cash in a room where the helmets, saddles, and bridles were kept. Everything was neatly organized.
Arrival
Upon arrival, the horses were ready, tied, saddled, and bridled for the ride. To mount, a rocky staircase served as a mounting aid. The guide adjusted the stirrups before bringing the horse.
My Trail Ride Diary
Your personal companion for your ride trips– with plenty of space for photos and notes!
Trail Ride
The ride started directly from the farm. We passed the horse paddocks, continued through a dry riverbed, and past some trees. After crossing the riverbed, we rode through the beautiful desert landscape, known as “the Moon Landscape.” The ride continued across the desert. We galloped three times in total; the rest of the time was at a walk. The guide shared information about the landscape. Whenever animals appeared, he pointed them out. He also showed us rock formations and explained their features. The ride was interesting, exciting, and educational. On the way back, we passed the trees again and rode through the dry riverbed. The rest of the way was the same as the way to the riverbed.
After the ride
Back at the farm, staff met us to hold the horses so riders could dismount. Some staff wore flip-flops. The staff unsaddled and unbridled the horses.
A transfer brought the rider back to Swakopmund.
Photos
There was a photo break during the ride. Additional photo breaks could be arranged individually. For the photos, the guide dismounted and took many pictures with the rider’s phone..
My Review
I really enjoyed the ride. The “Moon Landscape” was especially beautiful because it is such a unique landscape. The horses were very well cared for. The ride was also very interesting, as the guide shared a lot of information about the area. It was great that all rides were conducted individually and not in mixed groups.
