Sólhestar Horse Rental Reykjavik
Trail Ride (2 Hours) “Red Lava Tour”
27.02.2022
What can you expect on the 2-hour ride for advanced riders at Sólhestar? Here you’ll find all important information about the schedule, the stable, the trail ride, whether photos are taken, and my review.
Information
By Viator* or GetYourGuide* I could book the ride. A transfer picked us up in Reykjavik and drove us 30 minutes to the stable. Riders could borrow overalls for cold, rain, or snow.
Stable
The horses were ready outside, bridled and saddled for the ride. All other horses were in snowy pastures in groups. There were covered stalls that were empty at the time. Horses were regularly rotated to another farm to ensure they had plenty of free time.
Arrival
Staff asked about the riders’ experience and assigned suitable horses. Riders mounted without a mounting aid, and staff adjusted the stirrups.
Trail Ride
The ride started directly from the stable. We walked for a while to warm up. The ride followed two different, beautiful snowy trails, each including a 180-degree turn. At one point, we passed under a bridge. The trails led past rocks and through forests. During the ride, we tölted six times. No gallops were included on this ride.
After the ride
Photos
There was a photo stop at a scenic spot. One rock resembled the “Pride Rock” from The Lion King“ (- available on DVD, BluRay, 4K, or digital at Amazon*). The guide dismounted and took each guest’s phone so everyone had their photos immediately.
My Review
I really enjoyed the ride. The scenery was beautiful, the horses were well cared for, and the tölt was a lot of fun. The free transfer and hot drinks after the ride were also great.
