Information
The Jeep Safari in Pilanesberg National Park is a full-day trip, including a 3-hours safari in the morning and another 2-hours safari in the afternoon. A lunch break is included, where you can choose from three meal options at a café inside the park. If you are staying in Johannesburg, you can book a hotel transfer. The drive takes about 1.5 hours, but since several hotels are included in the pick-up route, it can take up to 1.5 hours longer. The return transfer in the evening could last up to 3 hours, so the entire trip requires a full day.
You can easily book and pay for the safari via Viator* It is a well-organized way to enjoy a real safari adventure and see South Africa’s wildlife in its natural habitat.
Arrival
Once we arrived at the entrance of Pilanesberg National Park, there was time for a short toilet break before the safari in the open Jeep began. Right at the start, before passing through the closed main gate, we already spotted a group of gazelles. The park itself covers 55,000 hectares, and of course, there are no guarantees which animals you will see. This made every moment exciting – you never know what might appear around the next corner.
Safari
The safari was an unforgettable experience. One of the biggest highlights was seeing up to four lionesses on two different occasions. Watching these impressive animals in the wild was truly breathtaking. Apart from the lions, we encountered a wide variety of wildlife: zebras, different species of gazelles, elephants, hippos, giraffes, warthogs, a tortoise, wildebeest and even rhinos. Each stop gave us time to take pictures and enjoy the animals up close.
The tracks inside the park are sometimes very bumpy, making you bounce up and down on your seat – which only added to the authentic safari feeling.
For lunch, we stopped at a café inside the park for about one hour. The three meal options gave everyone a good chance to recharge before heading out again for the afternoon safari.

After the Safari
At the end of the safari, there was another short toilet break before the group left directly for the transfer back to Johannesburg. With a total of 5 hours safari time in the park plus transfers, this trip is really fully packed but highly rewarding.
Photos
Everyone had the opportunity to take as many photos and videos as many as wanted throughout the safari. If you wished to be in the picture yourself, you could simply ask other guests to take a quick shot – most people were happy to help. This way, I was able to capture both - the wildlife and some personal memories.
